Founder
Hi! My name is Jess, and I am the owner and operator of Swim Plus, a private swim school dedicated to providing personalized, high-quality swim instruction. I have been teaching swimming lessons for 13 years and first opened Swim Plus in 2015 to create a safe, fun, and effective learning environment for swimmers of all ages.
I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts from York University and completed the Teacher Training Program at Canada’s National Ballet School. Throughout my studies, I operated Swim Plus during the summer months while teaching both swimming and dance year-round. After completing my studies, I worked at Canada’s National Ballet School, where I specialized in in-water and in-studio conditioning for full-time students and taught dance in the after-school program.
In 2020, I relocated to Peterborough, bringing Swim Plus with me while also teaching dance at a local studio. Shortly after, I transitioned into the travel industry and now work as a Conference, Groups, and Events Coordinator, while continuing to operate Swim Plus throughout the summer months.
My passion has always been teaching and water safety, and I am committed to providing personalized swim lessons that cater to each swimmer’s unique needs. Every swimmer deserves the opportunity to learn the lifesaving skill of swimming in a supportive and encouraging environment. As we enter our 10th year of business and 5th season in Peterborough, we are thrilled to welcome you to the Swim Plus family and can’t wait to see you in the water this summer!

Swim Instructor
My name is Sam Baker, and this will be my fourth summer as a certified swim instructor at Swim Plus. As a highly social individual, I love spending time with my family and friends and meeting new people. I am currently pursuing my undergraduate degree at Trent University and will be starting teacher’s college this fall.
From a young age, I developed a strong passion for swimming and water safety, which led me to become a competitive swimmer until I began my university studies. I started lifeguarding and teaching swim lessons at 16, and I’ve found both roles incredibly rewarding.
I strongly believe that learning to swim should be fun, confidence-building, and focused on essential water safety skills. My goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where swimmers of all levels can improve their technique, build confidence, and enjoy being in the water.
This summer, I’m especially excited to work with both returning and new swimmers, helping them develop their swimming abilities while fostering a love for the water. I look forward to an amazing season at Swim Plus!

Swim Instructor
Hi! I’m Sydney, a certified swim instructor with six years of experience teaching swimming lessons. I enjoy reading, swimming, going to the gym, and spending time with animals in my spare time.
I’m currently in my first year of the Paramedic Program at Sir Sandford Fleming College, working toward a career in emergency response while continuing my passion for water safety and swim instruction.
For the past six years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching swimming lessons and helping swimmers of all ages develop confidence in the water. My favorite part of teaching is seeing how excited swimmers get when they learn a new skill or swim farther than they ever thought possible. Watching their confidence and abilities grow throughout the session is incredibly rewarding!
This year, I want to help swimmers build confidence in themselves and their abilities while ensuring they understand the importance of water safety. I plan to develop a structured approach to help kids master key swimming skills earlier in each session while creating a fun, supportive, and engaging learning environment for all swimmers.
I’m looking forward to another fantastic season of teaching, learning, and making a splash—can’t wait to see everyone in the pool!

Hi! I’m Ireland, and I have a passion for baking, exploring the great outdoors, and teaching. I’m currently studying History and Indigenous Studies at Trent University, with the goal of becoming a teacher after I complete my degree.
I have been a swim instructor for three years, and I’m thrilled to be returning for my second summer with Swim Plus! The best part of teaching swimming lessons is watching swimmers achieve their goals, build confidence, and develop essential water safety skills.
I am looking forward to an amazing summer of fun, learning, and swimming success—I can’t wait to see everyone in the water!
